Want To Learn About Assisted Hatching? Do It From The Experts
The circle of life revolves around two basic properties of nature; the birth of an organism and the death of a being to balance the overall symmetry. The same principle applies in the case of human beings, but incidentally, not every human male and female can procreate naturally. According to the recent facts and figures, this problem has become quite pandemic and is now a major problem worldwide. The overall statistics of the recent occurrences corroborate this fact.
What is assisted hatching?
This is a technique to ensure the successful development of an egg into a fetus with the mechanical or external stimulus to dissolve its membrane. In detail, a fertilized egg travels to the fallopian tube to be implanted for the continuation of the pregnancy in case of natural conception. In case of assisted conception or in vitro fertilization (IVF), the ovum needs to be ruptured before the injection into the uterus is performed. The rupturing means the spontaneous breakage of the outer membrane or zona pellucida by the embryo before the implantation occurs. This event has to be externally stimulated for IVF or other procedures for a successful implantation.
Need of assisted hatching
As we all know, hatching of the ovum is the prerequisite for every implantation event. However, not all eggs can hatch on their own. Especially, in female patients with two previous unsuccessful treatments of IVF or with an age over 38, assisted hatching procedure has been proved to be very important. It may also be needed to aid in the hatching of an ovum with a thick zona pellucida.
The process requires the aid of microscopes, robotic arms, and different chemical or physical stimulus to rupture the outer membrane. Sometimes, a weak acid solution or a laser beam may be used to break the outer wall. After a day of the rupture, the embryo is injected into the uterus of the patient. To avoid complications, the subject is treated with steroids or antibiotics, which may give rise to several side effects during the course of treatment.
